I’m Mykal Hoare, a garden designer and garden & nature communicator based in the United Kingdom.

Through The Gardener’s Lodge, I design abundant, naturalistic gardens in London and across England and Wales, with biodiversity shaping the way each space is planned, planted and grown. I believe gardens should feel deeply personal while making more room for wildlife and bringing people closer to the natural world.

I grew up in the Australian bush, surrounded by rainforest, where nature felt dense, unruly and completely interconnected. That landscape shaped the way I see gardens and wild spaces today: not as collections of plants, but as living places in which people, wildlife and natural systems all have a part. I later trained in horticulture and garden design, establishing my first design practice west of Sydney before bringing that work to London & The United Kingdom

Before working in gardens, I spent years in professional television and media. Today, that experience continues through The Gardener’s Lodge Podcast, writing, content creation, where I explore biodiversity, ecology, the ideas and people changing how we garden. My design Studio work keeps those conversations grounded in real places and the media work allows them to reach beyond the garden gate.
